crafting unique experiences

Hey friend, I'm Sina. I believe that the wonders of life are best when shared with likeminded people. It gives life meaning and creates a sense of belonging.

That's what you deserve to experience on your wedding day. A lighthearted celebration of your connection to each other and what brings you joy. An adventure exploring places that leave you in awe while soothing you simultaneously. No pressure, no performing - just you being free, feeling alive.

I help couples create Elopements that feel this way. And I make them look like Art while capturing their story unfolding.

I'm also a sucker for Madeira myself. I've travelled to 25+ countries in the past years, but this island took my heart. Anything we create here together will be nothing short of magic.

Step 1

Create your Ceremony

Create your Ceremony

The first thing to consider as you start planning is who will be with you where you want to have your Elopement ceremony. From there you can build your timeline.

How to include Family & Friends

Will it be just the two of you, or will you invite a small group of close friends or family? Even if you decide to elope just the two of you, there are many beautiful ways to include your loved ones in your Elopement , even when they're not physically present:

Have an Engagement Party - Celebrate together.

Shop wedding attire together - Let them help you pick your details & style.

Ask them to write letters or record a video toast - Take their loving words with you, even if your loved ones aren't physically present.

Video call on Your Day - Call them with your emotions still fresh.

Send a video - Record a short video and send it to them. For example when toasting to them.

Send Postcards - Do it the old-fashioned way and send Postcards from your Elopement destination, stamps and all.

Have a Reception after your Elopement - Throw a party & wear your wedding attire again for them.

Morning

It's called Fairy Forest for a good reason. With ancient laurel trees often enveloped in mist, Fanal Forest feels surreal, etheral even. It's perfect for a intimate ceremony under a twisted tree arch and moody shots with the tree silhouettes. The chance of fog is greater in cooler months and in the mornings.

Pick your date and season

Things to consider

Things to consider
Things to consider

Madeira's mild, subtropical climate makes it a year-round elopement destination, though it does change with the seasons. So depending on the vibe you want and the location you chose for your ceremony here are some things to consider:

What is the best time to Elope in Madeira?

Best Overall Months - April to June and September to October. These months offer pleasant temperatures, minimal rain, and fewer crowds compared to peak summer. They are also ideal if you want a sunrise ceremony, because the chance of clear skies is far greater, the temperatures at higher altitudes will be pleasant and the sunrise times are often more relaxed too.

For Dramatic Landscapes - Winter or early spring are ideal for misty forest scenes and fewer tourists. Madeira’s forests take on a mystical, misty quality in winter, especially in Fanal Forest, making it great for moody, cinematic photos. Tourist numbers are also lower, providing more privacy at popular spots. Ideal for couples who love cooler, misty environments and want a quiet, peaceful experience.

My Personal Favourite - April to May, when the island is in full bloom and all of the colorful flowers stand out like beacons in a sea of green hues. Also the temperatures are mild and peak season is still a few months off.

What you need to get legally married in Madeira

Required Documents

Passports or ID - For EU citizens ID is sufficient.

Birth Certificates - Both partners must provide recent International Birth Certificates, no older than 6 months. These can be issued at your local registry office.

Divorce or Death Certificates (if applicable) - If you've been previously married you need proof of your martial status by providing a divorce decree or a death certificate.

Certificate of no Impediment - This document confirms that there are no legal obstacles to your marriage.

Marriage Registration Application - his is submitted to the Civil Registry Office (Conservatória do Registo Civil) in Portugal, along with the above documents, to obtain permission to marry.

Portuguese Translations - All documents need to be translated to Portuguese and authenticated with an Apostille Stamp.

It is crucial to is to plan ahead. Submit all required documents at least 3 months before your Elopement date to allow time for processing.

Get help with the legalities

If you're planning your Elopement/Wedding remotely and can't be present in Madeira ahead of time, you can grant legal authority Power of Attorney (Procuração) to a designated person (often a wedding planner) to complete the legal process at the Civil Registry Office for you. This will also save you tons of stress, because you can be sure everything is taken care of properly and nothing is missing.

Same-Sex Weddings in Madeira

LGBTQIA+ friendly

LGBTQIA+ friendly
LGBTQIA+ friendly

Portugal is largely considered one of the most LGBTQIA+ friendly destinations in the world. Same-sex marriages have been legal in Portugal since 2010, which makes it a popular destination for couples to elope. Also the Portuguese are known to be extremely tolerant. Both locals and visitors enjoy a welcoming atmosphere supported by LGBTQIA+ protections and a culture that celebrates the community. In recent years, Portugal has strengthened its commitment to LGBTQIA+ inclusivity with progressive policies for transgender and intersex rights and stricter penalties for hate crimes, ensuring an even more inclusive environment.

What to wear when Eloping in Madeira

Dress for adventure

Non-restrictive Dress - Eloping in Madeira is all about exploring nature. Your dress shouldn't feel like a hindrance but rather let you move freely. A-Line or Sheath Dress are a great choice for example.

Flowy Fabrics - The weather can be warm and humid, so breathable fabrics are ideal. Also flowy materials like chiffon, silk, or organza catch the breeze beautifully, adding a ethereal feel to the photos.

Comfortable Shoes - Since you’ll likely be walking on rocky paths, forest trails, or even beaches, it’s best to have footwear that’s both comfortable and safe. If you plan to go hiking, bring spare hiking boots.

Layers - Higher altitudes, like Pico do Arieiro, can be chilly, especially at sunrise or sunset. Bring a light jacket, a light shawl, wrap, or cape. Opt for materials like silk or cashmere that add warmth without bulk.

Veil or Flower Crown - For a more dramatic, ethereal look, a lightweight veil or a flower crown with local blooms are magical.

Step 3

Book your Travel & Stay

My preference is to start with booking flights to know the exact travel dates: skyscanner.com and google.com/travel/flights are my go-to pages to find the best connections. Pro-tip: If possible book directly through the airline website.

Also make sure to check for visa requirements here if you're not a EU citizen.

Getting around the island

Rent a car

Rent a car
Rent a car

Public transportation in Madeira is limited, with infrequent schedules, especially to rural areas. Renting a car is the best way to explore the island, giving you the flexibility and freedom to visit all the places and hidden gems on your own terms. Also Madeira offers some of the most picturesque drives in the world. For example the ER101 coastal route providing breathtaking cliffside views or the roads through the UNESCO-protected Laurisilva Forest.

Use well-known platforms like Rentalcars.com, Discover Cars, or Kayak for price comparisons. Major international brands (e.g., Avis, Europcar, Sixt, Hertz) have offices in Madeira.

The easiest option is to pick up and drop off your car at the Airport

The hilly terrain requires a powerful engine—avoid basic models if you're planning mountain trips.

Get insurance and inspect the car before driving off. Take photos and videos of damage.

Weekly cost for renting a standard compact car with basic insurance: €150–€250 (low season) or €300–€500 (high season).

Timeline & Adventure

Since you're clear on your ceremony location & time, you can now build the rest of your day around it. I recommend creating a loose itinerary. Make sure to include travel time, fun activities and enough breaks to enjoy some delicious food. Some couples like to have a casual lunch and a private dinner in the evening for example.

Alongside these channels are narrow footpaths that make for some of the most scenic and accessible hiking trails on the island. Madeiras „Telefericos“ were initially built for the locals to reach the small strips of land below steep cliffs. They are a fun way to explore these places as an alternative to hiking the narrow, winding pathways. To name a few: Achadas da Cruz Cable Car, Garajau Cable Car and the most popular cable car system in Funchal, connecting the city to its old town Monte and incredible Botanical Gardens.

Catch a ferry from Funchal and explore the "golden island". While Madeira only has black, volcanic beaches, Porto Santo is known for its 9-kilometer stretch of golden sand. It's a very small island that can be explored in 2-3 days. Rent an E-Bike to get around, hike scenic spots like Pico Branco and Terra Chã, enjoy relaxed beach days and most importantly feast on fresh seafood.

Annie & Johann's Elopement was nothing short of magic. From misty laurel forests to majestic mountain peaks painted golden by the sun - we soaked it all in.

The smell of flowers and salt from the ocean was in the air when Annie and Johann started to get ready for their adventure.

Then we drove to Fanal Forest and found ourselves in one of the most magical places imaginable. Eerie laurel trees covered in fog, only making parts of the forest visible at a time. After some exploring, we found the perfect spot for the intimate, symbolic ceremony - a tree that seemed to have grown sideways, creating a natural arch. Their vows left us all teary eyed.

We finished the day soaking up the golden sunset light at Ponta Da Ladeira on the west coast, sitting on the soft grass, not quite believing the magic of the day.
