Spring Elopement in Funchal & Ponta de São Lourenço

Prelude

Seixal Volcanic Black Sand Beach

The island greeted Nicole & Manuel in full bloom. Flowers of all colors, that stood out like beacons in a sea of dark green and blue hues.

Before the big day we took some time to explore the north of the island and ended up at Praia do Seixal, a volcanic beach with soft black sand. In combination with the surrounding steep, green cliffs this beach is spectacular and a must visit while in Madeira - as well as the natural swimming pools Piscinas Naturais do Seixal super close by.

Elopement day

Exploring gems like Ponta de São Lourenço & breathtaking sunset overlooking Funchal

After getting ready in their AirBnb in Funchal, we drove to Santa Cruz where the short and sweet ceremony took place at the Civil Registry Office. After officially tying the knot and shedding some happy tears, we walked the streets of Funchal and had a private lunch at the Golden Gate Grand Cafe.

Then it was time to explore Ponta de São Lourenço - a natural reserve located at the easternmost point of Madeira with incredible hiking opportunities (PR 8). We took advantage of the dramatic, rugged landscape and ocean views from Ponta do Bode and spent some time admiring nature here.

Another highlight was the private dinner cooked by their AirBnB hosts, who happened to be chefs aswell. We got to their place just in time to witness one of the most beautiful sunsets ever. The sky was on fire. Way to end this incredible day.
